Black River is proud to announce the 2016 Washington Youth Tour Winners. Three outstanding high school students will represent Black River Electric Cooperative on the 2016 Washington Youth Tour.
The judges chose Patrick Muldrow of Wilson Hall, Cameron Tomlin of Sumter High and Alyssa Weimer of St. Francis Xavier to attend the week-long event in June. They will be traveling with 65 other South Carolina students to the nation’s capital where they will be joined by more than 1,500 students from across the country.
During their stay in Washington, they will participate in numerous activities including visiting their Congressman, touring historical sites and learning more about electric cooperatives. Black River sponsors this tour as part of its commitment to the outstanding young people in its service area.
The three students were chosen from a number of extremely worthy applicants representing schools in Sumter, Clarendon, Kershaw and Lee counties.
In addition to the three winners, an alternate was also chosen in case one of the winners cannot attend the DC Tour in June. The alternate for 2016 is Emily DuRant, a junior at Wilson Hall. Congratulations to all of the students. We know you will represent Black River well!
